Germany Hit by Car Ramming Attack in Mannheim, 2 Killed

A car rammed into pedestrians in the southwestern German city of Mannheim, killing at least two people and injuring several others on Monday.

Police arrested a suspect, a 40-year-old German national, who is believed not to have had a political motive for the attack. Five seriously injured people were taken to hospital, with three receiving urgent treatment, including a child.

The incident comes after a string of deadly car ramming attacks in Germany in recent months, including one that killed six people at a Christmas market and another that injured over 30 in Munich. The motivations behind these attacks remain unclear.

German authorities have increased security measures ahead of carnival celebrations, but the Mannheim attack has prompted additional precautions.
