Lenovo Unveils AI Stick with 32 TOPS NPU for Portable AI Power

Lenovo has announced its new AI Stick at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, a portable device that brings powerful AI capabilities to users on-the-go. The stick features a 32 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and connects via USB-C Thunderbolt port. While not a commercial product yet, the Lenovo AI Stick aims to demonstrate the potential of local AI-accelerated computing.

Key specs include the 32 TOPS NPU, which enables AI-accelerated features such as Large Language Models (LLM) and graphics apps. The device is compatible with Lenovo’s AI Now suite, requiring Windows 11 and an x86 CPU to run. However, it’s worth noting that the Microsoft Copilot requirement for wider AI feature support stands at 40+ TOPS.

Lenovo believes the AI Stick may appeal to users with modern processors lacking NPU or slower NPU (Hi, Arrow Lake). It also sees potential in existing systems with NPUs or GPUs, as it can help “save GPU occupancy and reduce thermals” for normal AI PCs.

The device’s design suggests a possible M.2 form factor board for compute power. However, its power requirements are still unknown, with speculation ranging from 10W to potentially 100W.

While Lenovo hasn’t released full specs, the announcement hints at a more powerful NPU than what’s found in some modern smartphones. The AI Stick is not yet commercially available but offers a glimpse into the future of portable AI computing.
