Barclays ex-CEO Jes Staley is set to make a last-ditch bid to have his life ban from the UK financial industry overturned. The 68-year-old’s career appears all but over after he was censured by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for misrepresenting his ties to convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Staley will face off against FCA lawyers in a 12-day hearing, during which he will give testimony and provide emails between himself and Epstein. The case has drawn high-profile figures into its orbit, including Prince Andrew, Larry Summers, Bernie Madoff, and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey.
The FCA’s case hinges on its claim that Epstein was “lobbying” on Staley’s behalf for various connections. The regulator has released hundreds of emails between the pair, which include references to several high-profile individuals. The hearing comes as the Trump administration considers releasing previously undisclosed files related to Epstein from the FBI in the US.
