Gene Hackman’s Dog Misidentified as Dead

A German Shepherd Named Zinna Was Not Found Dead in the Home, Contrary to Initial Reports

The Santa Fe Police Department has made an error in their initial death report, misidentifying a dog named Bear as dead when in fact it was Zinna, another dog, that perished. The mistake was brought to light after news of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa’s deaths spread, with many believing the two dogs were also deceased.

According to sources close to the investigation, Bear – actually Zinna – was found in a closed crate by a handyman who had worked for Hackman. The dog was later retrieved by animal control officer Padilla and taken to his pet daycare facility.

“It breaks my heart,” said Padilla, who cared for the dogs over the years. “They were meticulous and amazing with their animals.”

Initial reports stated that both dogs were found dead in the home, but it has since been revealed that Zinna was not among the deceased. The police department is still investigating the cause of death for both Hackman and Arakawa.

The incident highlights the importance of accuracy in reporting and the need for thorough investigation to confirm the details of a case.
