Blackhawks’ Spencer Knight Hopes to Shine in Chicago

Blackhawks goalie prospect Spencer Knight is taking the league by storm with his impressive skills and determination. The 23-year-old has been traded from the Panthers and will now play for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Knight, who was drafted 13th overall in 2019, had a standout first start for the Hawks, stopping 41 of 42 shots in a 5-1 victory against the Kings. He’s expected to be the leading option in the crowded goalie room, alongside Arvid Soderblom and Petr Mrazek.

Knight is known for his athleticism, technical ability, and positive attitude. He wants to bring lots of wins to the organization and work towards winning hockey. With a .906 save percentage in 80 NHL appearances, he’s one of the most talented young goalies in the league.

However, the Hawks’ long-term goaltending outlook has become more complicated with Knight in the fold. Soderblom, who outperformed Mrazek this season, is now in an uncertain situation due to his pending restricted free agent status. The Hawks are struggling to find a buyer for Mrazek’s contract, which makes their chances of trading him before the deadline on Friday uncertain.

Soderblom, speaking after Monday’s morning skate, emphasized that he would “love to be a part of” what the Hawks are trying to build and believes in having a healthy relationship with Knight. He added that they’ll push each other to get better and compete for starts, which is just how it should be on a team.
