Lawyers for Civil Rights in Boston have filed a 47-page complaint against the Trump administration over its decision to roll back Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants. The group claims that the move is illegal, citing racial bias as the motivation behind President Trump’s actions.
The lawsuit centers on an unusual decision by the Trump administration to cut short an extension of TPS for Haitian immigrants, set to expire in February 2026 under former President Biden’s administration. Lawyers argue that Mr. Trump cannot revoke this extension, which was already granted.
The complaint also points to public statements made by President Trump against Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants, including racist comments about AIDS, food consumption habits, and describing Venezuelans as “animals.”
