Saquon Barkley, star running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, has signed a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history and the first at his position to break the $20 million per year barrier.
The deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed and comes less than a year after Barkley signed a three-year contract with the Eagles. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this is an “unusual step” for Philadelphia, indicating that the team believes in Barkley’s continued success.
Barkley’s extension comes after a resurgent season, where he led the league with 345 carries and 2,005 rushing yards, earning him AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. His performance also helped the Eagles dominate the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
By keeping Barkley on the roster, the Eagles solidify their position as top title contenders for years to come.
