New York State Department of Health stresses the importance of screenings and vaccinations for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to combat its prevalence in the US. According to the state’s data, over 40 types of HPV are linked to cancer, with the majority being preventable through vaccination.
The NYSDH reports that an average of 2,800 New Yorkers were diagnosed with HPV-related cancers annually between 2017 and 2021. The most affected groups include females (58%) and males (42%). To combat this, doctors recommend vaccinating children as early as nine years old.
The vaccine is deemed safe and effective by health experts and can be administered alongside other recommended vaccines.
