In her new memoir “Say Everything,” actress Ione Skye opens up about her tumultuous Hollywood life, including past relationships and the absence of her father. The 54-year-old, known for her breakout role in the 1989 film “Say Anything,” reflects on a journey that began when she was just 15.
Skye shares stories of her early fame as a teen idol, starring alongside Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix, and her relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis. The couple started dating when Skye was 16 and Kiedis was 24, but their relationship ended due to his struggles with heroin addiction.
Skye also writes about her marriage to Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys at age 21, which lasted seven years before ending due to infidelity. The end of this relationship is particularly difficult for Skye, who says it still feels like a death to her.
One of the most significant revelations in the book is Skye’s complicated relationship with her father, Scottish singer Donovan Leitch. She reveals that his attorney sent a letter requesting a paternity test when she was already a successful actress, but she ultimately decided against taking the test and didn’t meet him until just before her 18th birthday.
The memoir also touches on Skye’s experiences as a mother and wife, including a revelation about how her past relationships may have influenced her pregnancy. The book is an “act of self-forgiveness” for Skye, who says it was healing to confront her past and learn more about herself.
Now living in Australia with her husband Ben Lee and their family, Skye hopes that her memoir will help others understand the complexities of fame, love, and loss.
