Bird Flu Confirmed in Dare County Backyard Flock

A confirmed case of bird flu has been found in a backyard flock in Dare County, North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture worked with the owner to depopulate the flock after state health officials confirmed the outbreak. This is the first lab-confirmed case of bird flu in Dare County, following a commercial operation in Hyde County that reported an outbreak in January. The USDA has confirmed over 12 cases of bird flu in wild birds across the region, including 11 cases in Hyde County and one each in Beaufort and Tyrrell counties.
