UNC women’s basketball continued its winning streak, beating Virginia Tech 91-59 on Tuesday night. The Tar Heels have now won six straight games and are putting up impressive numbers, scoring an average of 90.8 points per game over their last six contests.
The Heels took control of the game with a 48-12 run in the middle of the first half. This stretch had all the makings of a great performance – tough defense, transition play, and good shooting. The Tar Heels shot above 50 percent from the field in both halves and hit 15 three-pointers, which is now their season high.
Seth Trimble and RJ Davis led the team with 15 points each, while Ven-Allen Lubin contributed ten points and paired that with eleven rebounds for his first double-double. Ian Jackson also chipped in 19 points.
The win was not without its challenges, as Virginia Tech had a rough time taking care of the ball. The Heels forced eight turnovers over the next 17 possessions after initially struggling to get any, which allowed them to take off and score easily.
This success has put the team on notice for their upcoming matchup against Duke, who will also be in attendance this Saturday.
