A consortium of investors led by BlackRock is set to acquire majority stakes in ports on either side of the Panama Canal, giving US firms control over two strategic locations. The deal, worth $22.8 billion, also includes dozens of other ports worldwide.
US President Donald Trump had previously raised concerns about these ports due to their connections to China. The acquisition will bring significant economic influence to BlackRock and US companies involved in the deal.
