NASA Addresses Restructuring Plan Amid Staffing Cuts Concerns

NASA HQ has provided some information to employees regarding restructuring plans, addressing concerns about potential staff reductions in force (RIF). According to a recent memo, the initial RIF plan is due in 9 days. Employees are advised to be patient and focus on the mission, supporting each other during this transition.

The agency is working with federal agencies, including the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Management and Budget, to implement changes under the President’s DOGE Workforce Optimization Initiative. Agency leadership is collaborating with employees to determine impacted areas and ensuring open communication throughout the process.

Meanwhile, NASA has received guidance on reducing spending thresholds for purchase and travel cards from the General Services Administration. Employees have been notified of these changes, which will not affect current approved travel or mission-critical activities.

The agency remains committed to completing its mission as planned, with ongoing science and technology demonstrations advancing in space. Recent launches, including Intuitive Machine’s IM-2 mission, demonstrate NASA’s continued progress in the Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative.

Leaders encourage employees to take a breath during this transition period, emphasizing the importance of staying informed but also being patient as changes are implemented.
