Forest Fire Rages in Japan’s Northeastern Coast

A severe forest fire has devastated a northeastern coastal city in Japan, leaving dozens of homes damaged and hundreds of residents evacuated. The fire, which began on Wednesday, has burned approximately 2,100 hectares (5,190 acres) of forest since then.

At least 84 homes have been affected, with over 1,200 people forced to flee their homes. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, some areas are still experiencing fires. More than 2,000 troops and firefighters have been deployed to combat the inferno.

A recent discovery has raised concerns: a man’s body was found on a road, and authorities are investigating whether the death is connected to the fire. The area has seen its driest winter in over 70 years, according to Japan Meteorological Agency records since 1946.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency is working to mitigate the damage and ensure public safety.
