The iconic Tamagotchi, a childhood stress-inducer that taught parents how to set boundaries, has been announced as one of 2025’s nominees for induction into the Video Game Hall of Fame. The little digital pet is competing against other classics like Frogger, Goldeneye 007, and Age of Empires. To be inducted, games must meet four criteria: icon status, longevity, geographical reach, and influence.
A diverse list of 17 games makes up this year’s nominees. They will be judged by a voting body that includes journalists, scholars, and fans. The Player’s Choice Ballot is now open for voting, allowing fans to participate until March 13. To vote, visit worldvideogamehalloffame.org and cast one vote per day on your preferred game.
The final selection of four games will be announced later this year, but Tamagotchi fans are hopeful that their childhood nostalgia will pay off.
