Google has added support for Live Updates to its Google Maps app on Android devices running the latest beta version of Android 16. The feature, announced alongside Android 16 Beta 2, allows users to receive live updates and notifications about their navigation journey.
When a user navigates with Android 16 Beta 2.1, they will see a pill-shaped notification at the top of the screen that displays additional information. Tapping this notification brings up extra details that can stay on the screen for several seconds even when interacting with other apps.
The feature is also available in the app’s “app info” display, where users can toggle off “Live Info.” However, the pill notification will only appear if Picture-in-Picture mode is turned off.
This update mirrors the implementation seen on the Galaxy S25 series running Android 15. The introduction of Live Updates to Google Maps marks an important step towards its full release in upcoming months, when more apps are expected to adopt this feature.
