Rockstar Games has made the GTA 5 Enhanced version available on the Steam Deck, and you can download it for free if you have the Legacy Edition of Grand Theft Auto 5. However, note that the multiplayer mode (Grand Theft Auto 5 Online) is no longer supported due to the integration of the BattlEye anti-cheat system.
To download the game, follow these steps:
1. Open your Steam Deck and select the search box.
2. Type ‘Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced’ and press search.
3. Download the version with the “Enhanced” label on top of the Grand Theft Auto 5 logo.
4. Click on the Play button to launch the game.
Before initiating the download, ensure you connect to a fast internet connection due to the game’s large size (around 90 GB).
To achieve a smoother gameplay experience, tweak some settings:
1. Resolution: 1280×800
2. Enable Ray Tracing: On
3. Ray Traced Shadows: Very High
4. Ray Traced Reflections: Very High
5. Ray Traced Global Illumination: Off
6. Ray Traced Ambient Occulsion: Off
7. Frame Scaling: AMD FSR 3
8. AMD FSR 3 Quality: Balanced
These settings should run the game at around 30 frames per second with ray tracing enabled. Keep in mind that you can experiment with different settings to find your preferred experience.
Returning players are advised to migrate their GTA 5 Legacy version data to the Enhanced version if they want to avoid starting from the beginning.
