Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced the prospect participants for this year’s Spring Breakout games. The annual event aims to showcase the best young talent from all 30 teams during spring training. This year, 16 games will be held across the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues, featuring doubleheaders with major league spring training games.
The Tampa Bay Rays lead their team of prospects, with Carson Williams, considered a top ten prospect in the game by multiple publications. The Rays’ roster includes 11 infielders and nine pitchers.
Williams is joined by other notable prospects such as Nathan Flewelling (C), Xavier Isaac (1B), and Will Simpson (1B/3B). The team also features several outfielders, including Tre’Morgan (1B/OF), Theo Gillen (OF), and Chandler Simpson (OF).
The games will be played from March 13-16, with the Rays facing off against the Boston Red Sox prospects on Thursday. Last year’s event saw Xavier Isaac make a notable performance, hitting two home runs and slicing a double during a game against the Minnesota Twins top prospects.
The Cubs and Nationals will each play two games due to the uneven number of teams in Florida and Arizona. A total of nine games will be played as part of traditional doubleheaders with major league spring training games.
