Mysterious Galaxy Glows in Infrared Light

The Sombrero Galaxy, a massive galaxy spanning 50,000 light years, has been captured in stunning detail by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The galaxy’s dark dust band is visible in infrared light, but not in visible light. A recent image shows this phenomenon in false blue, revealing the galaxy’s hidden features.

Located 28 million light years away, the Sombrero Galaxy can be seen with a small telescope in the direction of the constellation Virgo. This unique ring-shaped galaxy is part of the nearby Virgo Cluster of Galaxies and holds secrets about its formation and evolution.
