RTX, a leading aerospace and defense company, has partnered with JetZero, the developer of a novel blended wing body aircraft, to provide critical systems for the airframer’s full-scale demonstrator. Pratt & Whitney will integrate its PW2040 engine and auxiliary power unit (APU), while Collins Aerospace will design and build nacelle structures.
The partnership aims to reduce fuel burn by 50% through the aerodynamic efficiency of the blended wing design. Test flights are planned for 2027. The systems provided under the agreements include:
– Pratt & Whitney’s PW2040 engine, offering up to 43,000 pounds of thrust
– Pratt & Whitney Canada’s APS3200 APU, utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques
– Collins Aerospace’s nacelle structures, including fairings and engine support
RTX will validate key technologies that could benefit multiple customers in the aviation industry. The partnership marks an important milestone for JetZero, with plans to achieve operational costs savings through improved fuel efficiency.
