Samsung Galaxy S24 Owners to Get One UI 7 and Android 15 in April

Samsung has confirmed that owners of its Galaxy S24 flagship will receive One UI 7 and Android 15 upgrades in April, with a specific date not yet specified but rumored to be around April 18th. The upgrade is part of Samsung’s effort to match Apple’s iPhone security features.

Android 15 brings improved security and privacy updates, including scam call defense and live threat detection. Samsung will also expand its Knox Matrix ecosystem to provide enhanced protection against malicious apps.

The delay in releasing One UI 7 has been described as “tortuous,” but it now seems that the upgrade is just six weeks away. This means it’s about five months later than newer Pixel devices receiving the same upgrade.

To prepare for the update, Samsung owners need to install the March security update as soon as available. The new update will also bring a new Safe Install system to protect against malicious apps from sideloading.

While the exact date of One UI 8 is not confirmed, some speculate that Samsung may skip One UI 7 updates and move directly to Android 16 with One UI 8, which is already in beta. This would align Samsung’s security features more closely with those of Pixel devices.

Overall, Samsung’s upgrade is an important step towards narrowing the gap between its flagship phones and Apple’s iPhone when it comes to security features.
