AEW star Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) recently spoke out on his podcast, criticizing WWE talent for claiming they don’t watch AEW. According to MJF, anyone who wants to be a top star in pro wrestling needs to stay up-to-date with the industry.
In an interview with Jimmy Traina, MJF stated that watching WWE programming is great and he was indeed watching John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber. He emphasized that being a top wrestler requires consuming as much professional wrestling as possible. If you’re not doing so, MJF asked, “Can you call yourself a student of the game?”
MJF also praised AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view on Sunday and encouraged WWE talent to watch it. He believes that if you don’t stay informed about the industry, you can’t be taken seriously.
However, MJF clarified that he doesn’t believe there is tribalism between WWE and AEW wrestlers. Instead, he thinks that having two major companies in the industry allows wrestlers to earn more money and have a better quality of life.
MJF concluded by saying that while people may enjoy all types of wrestling, consuming professional wrestling content is essential for success in the sport.
