Samsung is set to provide a huge free software upgrade to its Galaxy phone owners, with the exact dates now revealed. The update, based on Android 15, will roll out starting April 18, and will be available for multiple devices, including the latest Galaxy S24 series, Z Flip 6, and mid-range A-series handsets.
The new software features include artificial intelligence (AI) tools, live information widgets, and Google’s popular Circle to Search feature. This upgrade is great news for those with newer Samsung phones, but older models are not expected to receive the update.
The rollout schedule shows that the Galaxy S24 series will be first up, followed by other devices such as the S23, S22, and mid-range A-series handsets. However, this staggered approach is slower than that of rival Apple, which releases updates simultaneously across its range of iPhones.
Older Samsung phones from 2020 or earlier are unlikely to receive the update, and it appears that Samsung’s software promise has improved significantly since then. The company has promised seven years of software updates for its new Galaxy S and Z series models.
In a related development, Samsung has announced a beta program for its One UI 7 software, which will be available starting today in the UK for certain devices, including the Z Flip 6 and S23. This allows users to try out the upcoming software before its official release.
