1Password has released its latest update with the new Nearby Items feature, making it easier to access sensitive data tied to specific locations. This innovative feature allows users to quickly recall passwords and other credentials without having to remember their names.
The feature was born during a hackathon and aims to provide faster access to items wherever and whenever needed. Even if users don’t know or remember an item’s name, 1Password will display the necessary information simply by being at the associated location.
To use the Nearby Items tool, users can edit a stored item on their app, add a location, and then tap it in the home tab of the mobile app when they arrive. The company has also introduced a map view to set and view locations easily.
Key benefits include:
* Location data is not shared or tracked
* Relevant items are checked locally, ensuring device coordinates remain private
* The feature is optional, allowing users to continue using the password manager without it
The update is free to download but requires a subscription, with the personal tier costing $2.99 per month and billed annually. New users have a 14-day trial available.
