Red Robin to Close Up to 70 Underperforming Restaurants by 2030

Red Robin, a casual burger joint and American-fare chain, announced plans to close up to 70 underperforming restaurants by 2030. The company cited a need to pay off debts and reinvest in its remaining restaurants.

The closures are part of Red Robin’s efforts to improve its financial performance, which has been struggling in recent years. In its fourth-quarter report, the company revealed a restaurant-level operating loss of around $6 million in 2024. Total revenue decreased by $54.5 million, and net income fell by $77.5 million.

Despite the challenges, Red Robin reported positive developments in late 2024, including increased same-store sales and customer satisfaction. The company plans to add new menu items, such as “hot honey” crispy chicken sandwiches and global-inspired burgers, to boost its offerings.

While the company has not disclosed which locations are at risk of closure, it operates over 500 restaurants across the US and Canada. Red Robin’s Wisconsin locations include 11 sites in cities such as Appleton, Brookfield, Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Wausau.
