Delta Air Lines and JetZero have partnered to develop a commercial blended-wing-body (BWB) aircraft aiming for 50% more fuel efficiency than current planes. The collaboration supports Delta’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. JetZero’s BWB technology received $235 million in US Air Force funding, with the first flight expected in 2027.
Delta will contribute operational expertise to make this technology viable. “We’re working with partners like JetZero to advance revolutionary technologies that will help reduce aviation emissions,” said Amelia DeLuca, Delta’s chief sustainability officer. The BWB design is lighter, reduces drag, and provides more lifting surface area, making it a promising solution for reducing emissions.
JetZero aims to bring an aircraft to market this decade, aiming to make significant progress toward reducing airline energy costs and associated emissions. This partnership could serve as the foundation for other technologies and efficiencies in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
