Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd has disputed the notion that the team’s decision-making led to Kyrie Irving’s season-ending ACL injury. Kidd called the injury a “freak accident” and claimed Irving wanted to take on the heavy workload, which included 40 minutes per game for five straight contests following his trade for Luka Doncic.
Kidd stated that the idea of Irving being overworked is “not true” and accused others of exaggerating the situation. He believes Irving should play through injuries and not shy away from demanding a high workload at his age (32).
The Mavericks are now left with a shorthanded roster, missing several key players including Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Despite their efforts to shore up their defense, the team is struggling to stay competitive without their star players.
With 19 games remaining in the season, the Mavericks are facing an uphill battle to secure a playoff spot. Kidd’s comments have raised questions about the team’s leadership and decision-making, particularly given the recent trade of Luka Doncic.
