Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry delivered one of the most impressive performances of his career, scoring 40 points and guiding his team to a 121-119 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. The victory marked the Warriors’ 10th in 12 games since trading for Jimmy Butler at the NBA trade deadline.
Curry’s incredible shooting display included three clutch shots, including a high-arcing, turnaround jumper that stunned the crowd. He shot 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-13 from 3-point range, with four rebounds and four assists.
Butler also had a standout game, scoring 25 points and contributing six assists. The addition of Butler has transformed the Warriors into a different team, both on and off the court. Since trading away Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schröder, and others for Butler, the Warriors have improved their defensive rating and rank fourth in offensive rating.
The new lineup, which also features Draymond Green, has been a success so far. The Warriors have gone from firm playoff contention to a 35-28 record, securing sixth place in the Western Conference and the final guaranteed playoff spot. With significant competition behind them, the Warriors are on the cusp of making another deep postseason run.
The team’s net rating is the best in basketball, thanks largely to Curry’s improved scoring average (29.4 points) and his increased assist numbers (6.8). While they may not have Klay Thompson this season, the Warriors’ new plan seems to be working. With Butler and Green providing facilitation and defense, Curry has become an even more dominant force on the court.
