Fast Food Fish Sandwich Showdown: New Jersey Edition

As Lent approaches, Christians around the world prepare to abstain from meat but indulge in fishy delights. In honor of this tradition, I embarked on a mission to rank every fast-food fried fish sandwich I could find in New Jersey. From Roy Rogers to Burger King, I tried nine different sandwiches to see which one reeled me in.

At the top of my list was Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish, a spicy glaze that added heat without overwhelming the palate. The winner of this competition is undeniable, with its crispy fish and savory tartar sauce making it a standout among fast-food options.

Other notable mentions include Checkers’ Crispy Fish Sandwich, which boasted the best tartar sauce of the bunch, and Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe, featuring wild-caught Alaskan Pollock. Despite some initial doubts, simplicity can be a virtue in fish sandwiches, as seen with Arby’s Crispiry Fish Sandwich.

On the other end of the spectrum were the underwhelming Roy Rogers Beer Battered Cod Sandwich and Wendy’s Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich, which failed to impress despite promising ingredients. White Castle’s Panko Fish Slider and Burger King’s Filet-O-Fish also fell short, with the latter being a massive disappointment.

As I wrapped up this culinary journey, one thing became clear: not all fast-food fried fish sandwiches are created equal. But for those willing to take a bite, there’s hope that you’ll find a gem among the ranks of New Jersey’s fast-food options.
