The Philadelphia Eagles are re-signing All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun to a three-year, $51 million contract, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $34 million guaranteed and makes Baun the fourth-highest paid linebacker in the NFL.
Baun’s new pact keeps him off the free-agent market and solidifies his place as one of the league’s top linebackers. He signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Eagles last year under Vic Fangio’s scheme, becoming one of the best bargains in the league.
The 28-year-old linebacker was a key contributor to the team’s Super Bowl-winning season, posting 151 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and three sacks. Baun’s ability to generate turnovers and make plays on both sides of the ball made him an invaluable asset to the Eagles’ defense.
General manager Howie Roseman was instrumental in re-signing Baun, despite not being known for spending on linebackers in the past. The decision reflects a shift in approach, with Roseman recognizing that outliers like Baun deserve significant compensation.
The move ensures that the core of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning squad remains intact as the team chases another Lombardi Trophy. With several other key players set to become free agents, including Milton Williams and Josh Sweat, it will be interesting to see how many more pieces the Eagles can retain in the offseason.
