Bengals Star Trey Hendrickson Seeks Trade After Granting Request

Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson has sought permission to trade for the second year in a row, and this time his request was granted by Cincinnati’s front office. Despite having one year left on his contract, Hendrickson expressed gratitude for being allowed to explore new options.

Hendrickson, 30, had an outstanding 2024 season, leading the NFL with 17.5 sacks and earning first-team All-Pro honors. He also reached the Pro Bowl for the fourth consecutive year, alongside wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Both players were the franchise’s first All-Pro selections since 2015.

Hendrickson has been one of the NFL’s top pass rushers since signing with the Bengals in 2021. He ranks third in pressure rate and third in total sacks during that span. However, his average annual salary ranks 11th among all edge rushers.

The granted request comes after fellow Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby agreed to a three-year extension worth $35.5 million annually, breaking the record for a non-quarterback. Hendrickson foreshadowed a potential trade scenario in February during Super Bowl week, stating his desire to help the Bengals win a Super Bowl.

The Bengals have already shown they’re willing to make big moves by extending Chase and Higgins, with Higgins receiving the franchise tag for the second straight year. With Hendrickson’s request granted, it remains to be seen where he’ll end up next season.
