WWII Bomb Disrupts Paris Gare du Nord Train Station

A World War II bomb was discovered near the tracks of Paris’ busy Gare du Nord train station on Friday, disrupting railway traffic to and from the station. The bomb, weighing 200 kilograms of explosives, was found during overnight maintenance work in the suburb of Saint Denis.

The discovery halted all train traffic to the station, with Eurostar trains canceled and rail service gradually resuming from 5pm local time. An estimated 700,000 people commute through the station daily.

Meanwhile, sections of a major Parisian ring road were also closed as police worked to disarm the bomb. The Transport Minister reported that defusing operations were completed successfully and without incident.

The discovery is not unusual in France, where bombs left over from both World Wars are regularly found, often in rural areas rather than urban centers.
