AMD has launched its Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, the first consumer GPUs in the company’s Radeon RX 9000 Series, based on its next-gen RDNA 4 GPU architecture. The new cards are expected to deliver significant performance improvements over their predecessors.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 feature improved AI capabilities, including “2x the ray tracing throughput per compute unit” compared to RDNA 3, according to AMD. This enables faster rendering of complex scenes and more realistic lighting effects. The new cards also support PCIe 5.0 and FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4), a feature that uses AI to upscale images for better performance.
In terms of gaming performance, early reviews have been positive, with the Radeon RX 9070 XT reportedly delivering “GeForce RTX 4080 levels of gaming performance at half its launch MSRP.” However, it’s essential to note that the performance may vary depending on the specific game and configuration.
Professional graphics work, such as video editing, compositing, and VFX, also benefits from the new architecture. AMD claims that the Radeon RX 9070 XT outperforms the previous-generation Radeon RX 7900 GRE by 12-17% in AI-based tools like Adobe’s Lightroom Classic and DaVinci Resolve.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is priced at $599, while the Radeon RX 9070 has a MSRP of $549. However, street prices are likely to be higher due to initial stock availability issues.
AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs are available through partner firms, including Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston, starting from March 6, 2025.
