Google Pixel 9’s New Camera Feature Allows Multi-Angle Video Shooting

Google has introduced a new camera feature called Connected Cameras for the Pixel 9 series, allowing users to shoot video from multiple angles wirelessly using an external camera.

The feature is part of the March Pixel Feature Drop and can be used with apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and TikTok. Users can switch between local and remote cameras at will, creating more engaging videos without having to take multiple takes.

To use Connected Cameras, users must have a Pixel 9 or newer, along with a compatible external camera such as a GoPro Hero 10 or up. The feature currently supports streaming on four apps, but Google plans to expand it in the future.

To enable the feature, users can go into their smartphone’s settings and search for “connected.” Once enabled, they will see a new option to use Connected Cameras. When streaming video, a camera picker appears on the screen, allowing users to switch between cameras and add or remove remote devices from the list.

However, there are some potential drawbacks to using Connected Cameras. The feature relies on Google’s cross-device services, which means users must sign in with their Google Account on both devices. This may become an issue when trying to connect a friend’s device as a remote camera.

Additionally, the automatic switching of audio recording can be problematic in certain situations. Switching between cameras is not instantaneous, and users will see a countdown on screen before making the change. While this adds a level of convenience, it also makes the feature less useful for quick cuts or fast-paced video recording.

The introduction of Connected Cameras may also raise concerns about misuse. Remote recording devices can be used to covertly record someone without their knowledge or permission, and making the feature widely available without third-party apps increases this risk.

Overall, Google’s new camera feature offers a convenient way to create engaging videos, but users must be aware of its limitations and potential drawbacks before using it.
