Inspiration to Many, 34-Year-Old Educator Battles Cancer, Passes Away

Margaret Elenis Siklas, a 34-year-old educator from Franklin Square, has died after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Despite being diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease, Siklas continued to inspire others through her remarkable story and fundraising efforts.

Born in Glen Oaks, Queens, Siklas was a former special education teacher and dean at William Cullen Bryant High School. She became an inspirational figure on social media as she documented her medical journey while continuing to raise funds for those with similar diagnoses.

Siklas’ determination and positivity earned her the respect of many, including her sister, Katerina Elenis, who described her as “very headstrong” and “always very positive.” Despite facing numerous challenges, including a second cancer diagnosis that led to complications during pregnancy, Siklas remained committed to her work and community.

In 2020, Siklas opened Oh My Goodness Kids, a wellness center in Garden City, where she promoted healthy lifestyles for children. The business continued to thrive even as her health declined, with Siklas often returning to the treatment center via NICU visits.

Siklas’ legacy extends beyond her own story, as evidenced by Ball4Life, a basketball fundraiser she established to support women and mothers battling breast cancer. The group’s second annual event is scheduled for next month.

The outpouring of love and support on social media for Siklas is a testament to the impact she had on those around her. Her determination, positivity, and generosity of spirit have inspired many, including friends, customers, and family members, who continue to share stories and describe her as an “inspiration” and a “warrior.”
