A woman went overboard from the Royal Caribbean ship Explorer of the Seas during the first day of The 80s Cruise, a nostalgia cruise featuring musical acts such as Squeeze and Faster Pussycat. Kimberly Burch, fiancée of Faster Pussycat singer Taime Downe, has been identified as the woman who fell off the ship around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
According to sources, an argument between Burch and her partner is believed to have contributed to her fall, although it’s unclear whether she accidentally or intentionally jumped from the balcony of her 8th-floor room. Her mother, Carnell Burch, told TMZ that Kimberly would not have hurt herself intentionally.
A search operation involving several ships was conducted after the incident, with the U.S. Coast Guard taking over the search effort once the ship arrived in Nassau, Bahamas. The Explorer of the Seas continued its journey with no excursions canceled and all performances, including those by Faster Pussycat, went ahead as scheduled.
The ’80s Cruise is a seven-day round-trip cruise from Miami to Nassau, San Juan, and Puerto Plata, featuring over 50 concerts and interactions with musical guests. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with fans and family members expressing their sadness and support for Burch’s loved ones.
Royal Caribbean has declined to comment further on the incident, citing respect for Burch’s family during this difficult time.
