Comedian Hannah Berner has issued a public apology for her comments about rapper Megan Thee Stallion during an interview at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party over the weekend. Berner, who was among a group of hosts tasked with interviewing stars at the event, said she regretted using the word “fight” to describe how Megan’s music impacts her.
Berner claimed it was a “careless choice of words,” and acknowledged that the phrase had deeper meaning, particularly in the context of racist microaggressions. She expressed her apologies to Megan and thanked those who pointed out the issue.
During the interview, Berner praised Megan’s recent Amazon Prime documentary and said she felt inspired by it. However, when asked about confidence boosters, Berner responded with “when I want to fight someone, I listen to your music.” This statement sparked criticism online, with many accusing her of using racist microaggressions.
Megan took the comments in stride but still expressed disappointment. Berner and fellow host Paige DeSorbo also spoke with other celebrities at the event, including Amy Poehler, Hailey Bieber, and Jesse Eisenberg.
Berner’s apology comes as fans continue to weigh in on social media, sharing their own experiences with Megan Thee Stallion’s music.
