India’s auto industry is not a target for disruption by Elon Musk-led Tesla, according to JSW Steel Managing Director Sajjan Jindal. The claim comes after Tesla signed a lease agreement for a showroom in Mumbai and identified locations in New Delhi and Mumbai.
Jindal stated that while Musk has achieved success in the US under President Donald Trump’s leadership, he cannot replicate his success in India due to differences in market conditions.
However, some social media users have reacted positively to Jindal’s statement, suggesting that Tesla’s expensive models will not be competitive in the Indian market and that Indian automakers like Tata and Mahindra are better equipped to handle global competition.
The comments come as Musk has been meeting with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his recent visit to the US. Despite this, Jindal remains confident that Tesla will struggle to adapt to India’s unique market dynamics.
