Apple has unveiled its upgraded Mac Studio desktop, boosting its powerful and compact design with the new M4 Max and M3 Ultra processors. The enhanced systems are designed for professionals in 3D art, AI development, research, and music, offering exceptional performance and unified memory.
The Mac Studio will be available starting March 12, with prices beginning at $1,999 for the M4 Max model and $3,999 for the more powerful M3 Ultra. The M3 Ultra features a staggering 32-core CPU, up to an 80-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine for AI apps.
During a demonstration, the M3 Ultra-equipped Mac Studio handled multiple resource-intensive tasks simultaneously without any slowdown, including running a 3D development tool on top of a massive LLM and playing a game like “Cyberpunk 2077” in the background. This showcases its impressive processing power, which is about twice that of the M4 Max.
The new processors also come with improved memory options, up to 96GB for the M3 Ultra, and storage capacities reaching up to 16TB. The system’s fans remained quiet during testing, indicating smooth performance.
Apple’s Mac Studio now comes with its AI platform, Apple Intelligence, offering text editing, summarization tools, and photo-editing capabilities. However, consumers may need to purchase a separate monitor due to the desktop’s design.
While the Mac Studio might not drive significant revenue growth for Apple’s Mac segment, it will likely contribute positively to the company’s overall business performance, which has outperformed its iPhone, iPad, and Wearables segments in terms of year-over-year growth.
