Pro-Palestinian protesters have vandalized parts of US President Donald Trump’s golf course in Scotland, targeting his proposal to rebuild the Gaza Strip. The action comes amid growing international anger over Trump’s plan, which involves relocating 2 million Palestinians to neighboring Arab nations.
The vandalism, carried out by the Palestine Action group, saw red paint daubed on buildings and the floor of the Trump Turnberry golf course in South Ayrshire. The message “Gaza is not for sale” was also painted across the lawn, along with insults directed at the president.
Trump’s plan has sparked outrage among Palestinian leaders, who claim it would forcibly displace Gaza’s population and destroy their way of life. In contrast, Arab state leaders have supported an alternative $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza, which avoids displacing Palestinians and includes international peacekeeping.
The US administration has rejected the alternative plan, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruling out any future role in the area for either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. An international conference is scheduled next month to raise funds for the rebuilding project.
The protests and vandalism demonstrate the depth of anger felt towards Trump’s proposal, with many seeing it as an attempt to erase Palestinian identity and culture. As one Palestine Action spokesperson said, “We will not let Trump treat Gaza like his own property.”
