Xbox-Branded PC Handheld Launching at End of Year

Microsoft appears to be launching an Xbox-branded handheld device this year, which could give it a competitive edge over Sony. According to a report from Windows Central, the device will have a PC-like design and use the Microsoft Store and Game Pass services.

Unlike previous rumors about a portable PlayStation device, Sony’s efforts seem stalled, with its PS5 Pro experiencing technical issues and failing upgrades. In contrast, Microsoft is skipping a mid-gen upgrade for its Xbox Series X/S consoles, which could be seen as smart or obvious given their poor sales.

The new handheld will likely launch at the end of this year and come in three models: $400-$256GB LCD, $550-$512GB OLED, and $650-$1TB OLED. While prices are higher than current Xbox consoles, a PC-like device that leverages Microsoft’s integrated capabilities could be an attractive option for gamers.

This move could give Xbox an advantage over Sony as it waits for its PlayStation concept to materialize. If successful, it will be a big win for Microsoft and provide a unique selling point in the gaming market.
