Major tech companies Amazon, Google, Meta, and Dow, along with other leading energy users, have signed a pledge to support tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050. The Large Energy Users Pledge, announced at CERAWeek 2025 in Houston, Texas, aims to increase nuclear energy production to meet growing global demand for electricity.
The signatories agree that nuclear energy can provide round-the-clock power, independent of weather or location, and play a crucial role in creating a diversified and reliable grid. They also recognize the importance of nuclear technologies in providing generation for various economic activities, including the technology sector, electrification, and industrial processes.
Supporting the goal is backed by several high-profile companies, including Google, Amazon Web Services, Meta, and Dow Energy & Climate Business. The companies emphasize the need for reliable, clean, and secure energy supply to meet growing economies’ demands and address climate change.
The pledge follows earlier commitments from 31 countries, 140 nuclear industry companies, and 14 major global banks and financial institutions. World Nuclear Association Director General Sama Bilbao y León stated that the unprecedented support announced today sends a clear signal to accelerate policy, finance, and regulatory changes to enable rapid expansion of nuclear power.
The announcement comes amid growing recognition of nuclear energy’s potential to decarbonize industrial processes and meet increasing global demand for electricity. The pledge is seen as a significant step towards achieving the goal of tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050 and delivering abundant firm clean energy required to power growth and innovation.
