Chinese Hotpot Chain Haidilao Compensates After Viral Urination Scandal

Haidilao, a Chinese hotpot giant, has apologized and agreed to compensate over 4,000 diners who were affected by a viral video of two men urinating into their hotpot broth. The incident occurred at one of its Shanghai outlets on February 24 but was not detected until four days later.

The company attributed the lack of training procedures as the reason for the staff’s failure to detect the situation promptly. Haidilao confirmed the location in downtown Shanghai on March 6 and reported the case to the police, leading to the detention of two 17-year-old men.

The company has filed a civil lawsuit application against them and is willing to take full responsibility for the incident. However, the amount of compensation is yet to be disclosed.
