Study Finds Most Galaxies Rotate Opposite to Milky Way

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has made a puzzling observation about the rotation of deep space galaxies. The telescope, launched in 2022, has imaged thousands of spiral galaxies and found that most of them rotate in the opposite direction to our galaxy, the Milky Way.

According to the study, this is not just true for nearby galaxies but also holds for distant ones observed from Earth. Scientists were surprised by the high number of galaxies rotating in the opposite direction as they initially thought it was a rare phenomenon.

This observation challenges current understanding of galaxy formation and evolution. Researchers are now re-examining their theories to explain why most galaxies seem to rotate in the opposite direction to the Milky Way, despite being separated from it by vast distances.
