The US budget deficit has widened to a record $1.15 trillion over the first five months of the fiscal year, driven by increasing costs and government debt. In February alone, the shortfall grew to $307 billion, according to the Treasury Department. This represents a 17% increase compared to the prior year when adjusted for calendar differences.
