A woman who accused Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy of attacking her has been granted a protective order against him. Tia Jones, who filed the complaint, is cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate the incident. Jones’ attorney stated that she wants to speak out and seek justice for herself.
Worthy was arrested on Friday on charges of assault on a family or household member. He was released the following day after Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick said his office had spoken with witnesses and would not accept the case. Worthy’s attorneys claim their client is innocent, citing that Jones had been asked to leave multiple times due to infidelity and had made destructive attempts before making the baseless allegation.
The Chiefs acknowledged the situation but were still gathering information. Worthy was drafted by the team last year after setting a record for the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. He played well in his debut, becoming the go-to receiver as the Chiefs chased a Super Bowl title.
