Intel has appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO, succeeding ousted former CEO Pat Gelsinger. Tan’s appointment follows a period of significant changes at the company, including several quarters of losses and a reorganization aimed at transitioning Intel into a foundry company. However, this plan appears to have been put on hold with Gelsinger’s departure.
Tan, who will take office on March 18, was previously a member of Intel’s board from 2022 to 2024. He has also held board positions at several other technology companies, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), and Cadence Design Systems.
The transition brings an end to Gelsinger’s tenure as CEO, who was removed by the company’s board on December 2. Gelsinger will remain as executive vice president and CFO under Tan’s leadership, while Michelle Johnston Holthaus will continue to oversee Intel’s consumer products.
