UN Calls Israel’s Reproductive Healthcare Attacks ‘Genocidal’

A UN probe has accused Israel of “genocidal acts” against Palestinians by systematically destroying women’s healthcare facilities during its war on Gaza. The Geneva-based Independent International Commission of Inquiry said that Israel “intentionally attacked and destroyed” Gaza’s main fertility centre, while blocking medicine for pregnancies, deliveries, and neonatal care from entering the enclave.

The commission also found that Israeli authorities had “destroyed … the reproductive capacity of Palestinians in Gaza as a group through the systematic destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare”. This was categorized as “two categories of genocidal acts” during Israel’s offensive in Gaza.

In response, Israel has rejected the allegations, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemning the UN investigation for “false accusations”. The report’s findings have been backed by former UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator Martin Griffiths, who described the evidence as “incontrovertible” and said that the findings were “long overdue”.
