Fran McCaffery to Leave Iowa Basketball Program After 15 Years

The University of Iowa is undergoing a leadership change with its men’s basketball program. Beth Goetz, Director of Athletics Chair, announced the news on Friday. She praised Fran McCaffery for his dedication to student-athletes and the community over the past 15 years.

McCaffery holds the record for most victories in Iowa history with 297 wins, including a Big Ten record 143. He has led the Hawkeyes to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and won the Big Ten Tournament championship in 2022. McCaffery also guided seven players to first-team All-Big Ten status.

The university will begin an immediate national search for a new head coach.
