GTA 5 Enhanced Sparks Outrage and Concern Among PC Gamers

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced, released on March 4, has a ‘mixed’ user review rating of 54% on Steam, with 19,772 users having reviewed the game. In contrast, the original GTA 5 on Steam boasts a ‘very positive’ rating, albeit it is no longer available due to Rockstar’s request.

The free upgrade includes features previously exclusive to console versions, such as improved graphics and faster loading times. However, many players have encountered issues with account migration, leading to widespread frustration. The problems persist even for those who have sought help from support, according to some reviewers.

GTA 5 Enhanced remains one of the most-played games on Steam, but its performance has raised concerns about Rockstar’s approach to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 launch. The game is set to be released on consoles in fall 2025, leaving PC gamers without a release window.

Some have speculated that the issues with GTA 5 Enhanced may indicate potential problems with GTA 6’s PC release. A former developer at Rockstar recently called for PC gamers to give the studio the “benefit of the doubt” regarding its launch plans.

Meanwhile, Take-Two has sued online marketplace PlayerAuctions over unauthorized listings of GTA 5 content, including hacked player accounts and in-game assets. The move comes as Rockstar continues to acquire new studios, with recent acquisitions including Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition developer Video Games Deluxe.
